A new report is showing shocking rates of domestic violence among Tennessee’s high school girls.  The report from the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth found one in six high school girls across the Volunteer State experienced physical dating violence in 2019.  It represents the highest rate in the country and is almost twice the national rate.  Officials say a way to avoid dating violence is to ensure teenagers are having open conversations about their relationships with adults.

Dollar General is being sued by the state of Ohio.  That State’s Attorney General Dave Yost says stores are continuing to charge higher-than-advertised prices.  Yost returned to court yesterday to request a temporary restraining order against the Goodlettsville-based retailer.  Yost initially filed a lawsuit against the company in November of last year, claiming they were in violation of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act by ringing up items for higher prices than the ones listed on shelves.  County auditor reports in Ohio show that the price discrepancies continued even after the initial lawsuit was filed.

Last month, Vol State’s Springfield Campus hosted eighth grade students from across the Robertson County Schools System for a Career Exploration Fair. The event served as an opportunity to educate students about potential career paths and allow them to explore their interests as they get set to enter high school later this year. Prior to the career fair, each eighth grader in a Robertson County public school took a YouScience assessment, which measures a student’s aptitudes for different careers as well as what their particular interests are.

Look up: A comet that last streaked over the Earth in the Stone Age is making a comeback.  The green comet will pass by Earth on February 1st, 50-thousand years after its last fly-by.  It could be visible tonight but if viewing conditions aren’t ideal where you are, the Virtual Telescope Project will begin a livestream at 10:00.  Experts believe the comet will be visible to the naked by the third week of January.
