Leaders in Sumner County are expecting construction delays at their new courthouse after the roof of the structure caught fire Sunday night. Building began in April of last year, with an expected opening date sometime in 2023. Fire officials and TBI are working to determine the cause of the blaze. County leaders say around 30 percent of the roof will need to be replaced.
The Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office is once again warning small business owners of a scam involving misleading mailers. Secretary Hargett says the letters indicate they come from the TN Certificate of Existence Filing Company. The mailers are an attempt to collect a fee of more than one-hundred-75 dollars for paperwork not required by the state. Hargett says those sending the items are not affiliated with the Secretary of State’s Office.
Law enforcement agencies in Wilson County are implementing safety plans for the upcoming Tennessee State Fair. The event runs August 18th through 27th at the James E. Ward Agriculture Center. The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office says a visible police presence will be maintained throughout the fairgrounds, focusing on high-traffic areas. Metal detectors will be placed at gate entrances and guns and other weapons will not be permitted inside.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is leasing fields across the state for the upcoming dove hunting season. Rates have increased this year, with landowners getting up to 75 dollars per acre to allow hunting on at least three priority dates next month. Fields that are sown with wheat are eligible for another 25 dollars per acre. Those interested in leasing property should contact their regional TWRA office.
