If you’re making the round of the county fairs this year, the Williamson County Fair is now underway. The event kicked off Friday and runs through August 13th. The fair features rides, games, and a variety of daily entertainment in addition to the traditional livestock exhibitions. Fireworks shows are planned for Friday and Saturday at 10:00 p.m.
Fire officials say the new Sumner County Courthouse is damaged after flames broke out last night. Multiple departments were called to the scene along East Main Street in Gallatin around 8:00 p.m. Gallatin Fire Chief Jeff Beaman says damage was contained to the roof, where building materials were stacked, as the courthouse is still under construction. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is urging residents to support local growers during National Farmer’s Market Week. The event began yesterday runs through Saturday. Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher says buying fresh, local produce is an excellent way to support families and communities. The Cross Plains police and fire departments will be hosting their first-ever Community Safety Day on Saturday, August 20th from 10 am to 2 pm at Kilgore Park. Fire crews will teach kids about bicycle safety, fire extinguisher safety and weather safety. Parents and their children will have the chance to meet first responders, explore police cruisers, medical helicopters, fire trucks, and ambulances.
