The Tennessee Department of Health reported one-thousand-338 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to 785-thousand-240. More than 30 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to eleven-thousand-590. There are fewer than 700 COVID-19 patients hospitalized statewide. Roberson County reports 9,050 cases since the pandemic began, 8,781 have recovered, and 121 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.
Meanwhile, the state is making additions to who can get the COVID vaccine during Phase 1C of the vaccination process. Tennessee Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said yesterday that household contacts of pregnant women are now eligible. Those with neuromuscular disorders and people with Down syndrome are also on the expanded list. The medication requirement for those with diabetes and hypertension was also removed.
The Tennessee Historical Commission says the bust of former KKK leader Nathan Bedford Forrest should be removed from the Tennessee State Capitol. The Historical Commission voted 25-1 yesterday to move the bust of the Confederate general to the Tennessee State Museum. House Speaker Cameron Sexton says he’ll wait for guidance from Attorney General Herbert Slatery before taking action.
