The Tennessee Department of Health reported one-thousand-226 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to nearly 745-thousand-830.  Nearly 100 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to over ten-thousand-560.  Close to 12-hundred COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide. To date, Robertson County has logged 8,341 cases of COVId-19 since the pandemic began. 7,813 have recovered and 106 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.

Governor Bill Lee told the people of Robertson County and the rest of the state last night that the tragedy of the coronavirus outbreak won’t define Tennessee or rob it of “the opportunity that 2021 holds.”  During his State of the State address the Governor said the money is there for one-time capital improvement projects, rural investments and to go all in on the basic education fund.  Governor Lee said by the time the year is over, Tennessee’s combined rainy day and Tenncare reserved funds will be two-billion dollars, the largest in state history.  Lee also said the state is mourning the over ten-thousand Tennesseans who have died of COVID-19.

Health officials in Robertson County and across the state are hoping they won’t see a surge in coronavirus cases following the Super Bowl.  People were encouraged to either watch the game alone, with friends virtually or with people they live with, but not to attend traditional Super Bowl parties.  The parties are seen as potential super spreaders of the virus.  Health clinicians will know in the next couple of weeks whether Tennesseans listened to the advice.

Sales of country singer Morgan Wallen’s music are surging.  Billboard reports that Wallen’s sales jumped more than 300 percent over the last week.  That’s after Wallen’s Nashville neighbors recorded him using a racial slur with the video surfacing last week.  Wallen has been indefinitely suspended from his contract and many radio stations have pulled his music from their playlists.
