Tennessee is among the states with the highest number of people arrested following unrest at the Nation’s Capital.  At least seven people have been arrested in New York and Texas.  There have been six arrests in Virginia and five in Florida.  The FBI has arrested five in Tennessee with authorities saying more may be possible.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported two-thousand-430 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over 687-thousand-750.  Close to 40 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to over 84-hundred.  Over 26-hundred COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide. Robertson County has had 7,645 cases since the pandemic began. 6,827 have recovered, and 85 Robertson County citizens have died form COVID-19

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee participated in the annual National Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The organization, along with community partners, gathered Monday to distribute meals to members of the community. Due to COVID-19 protocols, a limited number of volunteers took part in the meal distribution and the cleaning of two local club sites. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a partner of the National Day of Service, which is observed each year on the third Monday in January in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Governor Bill Lee is backing special session legislation to deal with learning loss students have suffered during the coronavirus outbreak.  The Intervening to Stop Learning Loss bill would require interventions for struggling students while another bill calls for building better readers with phonics.  There is also a bill on accountability, assuring students and teachers won’t face any negative consequences associated with student assessments.  The special session is expected to start today.
