The Tennessee Department of Health reported four-thousand-165 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to nearly 608-thousand-300. Nearly 60 additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to over seven thousand. Over 31 hundred COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide. The latest Robertson County numbers have a total of 6,533 Css of COVID since the pandemic began. 5,644 have recovered, and 74 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.
Lamar Alexander’s career as a public servant is over. Senator Alexander retired from public service yesterday after the 117th Congress convened in Washington, DC. He served as Senator for Tennessee for 18 years and previously served eight years as the state’s governor. The former president of the University of Tennessee has previously said he plans to return home to Maryville.
Montgomery County Animal Care and Control will reopen tomorrow. It had been closed the last few days for deep cleaning COVID-19 protocols. Owner surrenders and in-person adoptions will begin again tomorrow.
Montgomery County Courts say that all jury trials scheduled in January and February 2021 are suspended and will be reset. Officials say that limiting access to the Courts Center is necessary to protect the public health.
The Holly Bobo Law took effect New Year’s Day. The new law expands options for endangered child alerts in Tennessee allowing law-enforcement to issue them not only for children but also for young adults under the age of 21 — something that wasn’t available for Holly at the time. While less urgent than Amber alerts, endangered child alerts are pushed to the media and sent out through TBI‘s own social media.
