There are over 16-thousand new coronavirus cases in Tennessee.  Over 100 additional deaths are also being reported.  The numbers released yesterday by the Tennessee Department of Health are for yesterday and Saturday.  There have been over 519-thousand COVID cases in Tennessee since the outbreak began with over six-thousand coronavirus-related deaths. Robertson County has had 5,706 positive COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began. 929 are still active. 69 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.

Tennessee’s first lady is positive for COVID-19.  Governor Bill Lee’s office confirmed on Saturday that Maria Lee tested positive for the virus after she showed mild symptoms.  Governor Lee himself tested negative and is quarantining at the Governor’s Residence.

Governor Bill Lee is asking Tennesseans to limit their Christmas gatherings.  Governor Lee said yesterday Tennesseans shouldn’t gather with anyone outside their households to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.  Lee noted that there was a spike in cases after Thanksgiving and the state can’t afford another one after Christmas.  He also announced plans to limit indoor public gatherings to ten people and urged folks to wear masks, but stopped short of making masks mandatory.

Robertson County residents should keep their eyes toward the skies tonight.  Jupiter and Saturn are coming together to create a rare astronomical event. NASA says the planets will appear only a tenth of a degree apart, marking their closest encounter in nearly 400 years. Astronomers say the alignment will create a bright point of light that will be easily visibly to the naked eye. To see it, just look toward the southwest about an hour after sunset. The encounter has been dubbed the “Christmas Star,” as it falls just a few days before the holiday.
