Governor Bill Lee is authorizing the use of Tennessee National Guard troops in the fight against COVID-19.  Governor Lee signed an executive order on Friday.  The authorization was signed amid the worst week for coronavirus-related deaths in the state.  National Guard members will be able to perform diagnostic testing, operate public or privately owned ambulance service vehicles and perform authorized nursing and other functions in facilities.

The Tennessee NAACP is strongly opposed to a bill it says would permit Tennesseans to use deadly force to protect property and businesses during riots.  The Tennessee NAACP says the bill would lead to “racially-based, vigilante killings.”  The bill that mirrors a Texas law was filed by Republican Representative Jay Reedy of Montgomery County.  He says the current bill is not the final version and a meeting between the NAACP and Representative Reedy is expected to be held this week.
