Former Portland Mayor Dan Jenkins is dead. His service to the Portland Community spanned more than 50 years. He was a member of the Portland City Council (twice) and served as Mayor of the City of Portland from 1997 to 2001.  Dan Jenkins was 80.

The Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency will be hosting a 2-day FREE food giveaway event in Robertson County set for Wednesday, February 3rd  and Thursday, February 4th from 9 am to 3 pm at Travis Price Park. The food is available for any Robertson County resident in need.

White House city leaders hope a new, planned roadway extending from a commercial area anchored by a Love’s Travel stop on Highway 76 will provide an alternative for motorists and spur development. Harper Way will extend from Loves Lane and connect to Union Road. It will span about 1,700 feet, and city leaders say it gives motorists a traffic light to access Highway 76. White House Director of Planning and Codes Ceagus Clark said there is also a development opportunity of land behind the Love’s Travel Stop. 

The Tennessee Department of Health reported one-thousand-710 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to nearly 710-thousand-430.  Over 110 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to over 89-hundred.  Over two-thousand COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide. Robertson County has had 7,930 case since the pandemic started. 7,300 have recovered and 88 have died form COVID-19 in Robertson County

Legislation is being filed by a state senator that would prevent businesses from requiring people wear face masks or other medical devices.  Republican lawmaker Joey Hensley of Hohenwald filled the bill last week.  SB320 would prevent a business or venue from denying goods, services, use of facilities, and other accommodations if they don’t wear a mask, face shield or other medical device.  The legislation calls requiring a face mask as a condition of service “a discriminatory practice.”.
