Hail to the Cross Plains chief. Stan Hilgadiack started as Chief of Police post Sept. 21, bringing more than 40 years of experience to the city. He comes on board following the resignation of former Chief Max Tate back in February.  The Robertson County Sheriff’s Department had handled policing for the area

A pickup truck caught fire in a parking lot across the street from the Springfield Police station Thursday afternoon. The truckwas owned by Bubba Dorris, a Firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department.  The cause of the fire is unknown, just that it started in the front part of the cabin.

Three counties have elected to reinstate mask mandates through the end of the month.  The orders take effect tomorrow night at midnight and run through October 30th in Williamson, Sumner and Wilson. That’s when Governor Bill Lee’s executive order expires that allows most counties to mandate face coverings in public.  Lee’s office has already said it will extend the order until the end of the year.  The countywide orders will also be reissued to follow the governor’s order.  

The Stokes Brown Public Library is getting a grant of state and federal funds to make some technology upgrades.   $3,000 will be used to improve access to Technology for the library and its visitors and $1,000 will go toward the protective equipment needed to reopen the library safely as well as videoconferencing equipment. By the way the library will be having a Drive-thru Trick or Treating coming up on Oct 29th from 5:30-7:30.

The Tennessee Department of Education will distribute 600-thousand books to students and teachers as part of a new literacy imitiative.  More than 50 school districts are taking part in the program.  Families will also have access to engagement tips through text messages.

The number of jobless claims in Tennessee fell slightly last week compared with the week before.  State labor officials say more than 98-hundred unemployment claims were filed last week, down from a little more than ten-thousand filed the previous week.
