The Stokes Brown Public is getting a grant of state and federal funds to make some technology upgrades.   $3,000 will be used to improve access to Technology for the library and it’s visitors and $1,000 will go toward the protective equipment needed to reopen the library safely as well as videoconferencing equipment. By the way the library will be having a Drive-thru Trick or Treating coming up on Oct 29th from 5:30-7:30.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported two-thousand-292 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to  almost 236-thousand.  Nearly 20 new coronavirus-related deaths were also reported, and more than 29-hundred deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 since the outbreak began. Roberson County has had 2,510 cases of the virus since the pandemic began, 2,326 have recovered and 40 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.

Turnout for early voting in November’s elections is strong in Tennessee.  As of yesterday, more than one-million Tennesseans have submitted their ballots either in person or by mail.  The secretary of state’s office says turnout for early voting is a 47-percent increase over the 2016 presidential election.  Early voting ends October 29th with Election Day set for Tuesday, November 3rd.

Belmont University is prepared for tonight’s final presidential debate.  School officials say many safety protocols are in place due to coronavirus concerns.  Everyone covering the debate, attending the event or taking part in it must test negative for COVID-19.  Those entering the Curb Event Center will also have their temperature checked.  The Metro Public Health Department has had several walkthroughs at Belmont, expressing confidence that the protocols will ensure safety.

The Tennessee Department of Education will distribute 600-thousand books to students and teachers as part of a new literacy imitiative.  More than 50 school districts are taking part in the program.  Families will also have access to engagement tips through text messages.
