This year’s Springfield Christmas Parade, slated for Nov. 21, will become the city’s first-ever to be held as an evening event. Plus, attendees will see the Robertson County Christmas tree light up that night — rather than in December — when Volunteer of the Year, Laura Crawford of Lola Bean Coffee, flips on the switch as Santa makes his way by the courthouse during the parade.
Tomorrow is Earthquake ShakeOut Day in Tennessee. The day was set aside by Governor Bill Lee to help inform Tennesseans of what to do in case of a major earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey reported over 300 earthquakes in Tennessee in 2018 as the state’s eastern and western areas sit along seismic zones. The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance reports scientists estimate there’s a 25-to-40-percent probability of a magnitude six-point-0 or greater earthquake hitting the central U.S. within a 50-year window.
The Tennessee Department of Health Reported yesterday that there are one-thousand-149 COVID-19 related hospitalizations in the state. That’s just 12 short of the state’s all-time high. The positive rate is also up over nine-and-a-half percent. Robertson County has had 2,419 cases since the start of the outbreak, 2,268 have recovered and 39 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.
The Springfield Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with Walmart of Springfield to bring free, family-friendly movies to two Springfield parks. It’s part of the new series the city of Springfield is calling, Free Movie Fridays. The season finale will be The Addams Family tonight at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Concessions will be on site. Bring your bug spray, lounge chairs, and blanket. The movie will be on the soccer field.
There’s no rest for the Tennessee Titans. After bombing the Bills on Tuesday night, the Titans will face AFC South rival Houston at Nissan Stadium on Sunday. The Titans are unbeaten while the Texans are just 1-and-4. Tennessee is more than a field-goal favorite over the Texans.
