The first heat wave of the season begins Sunday and continues into the workweek for much of the eastern US. While we’re not yet officially in the summer, Mother Nature is playing by her own rules. Over 30% of the US population will experience temperatures of at least 90 degrees or higher this week. “Temperatures starting on Monday will run between 10-15 degrees above normal, and border on record maximum temperatures, both for daily highs and lows.”
If you do have young children traveling with you over next few days with these seasonably hot conditions expected, remember this simple saying: “Beat the Heat, Check the Back Seat!” Tragically, nationwide 24 children died in hot cars in 2020 and 1 toddler already has died in April 2021.
A home that officials said was in some stage of demolition burst into flames Saturday Night. Officials say the cause of the fire near the corner of Stevenson Lane and Wartrace Rd. is still under investigation. No one was injured.
The conditions of two people injured in a house-boat explosion on the Cumberland River in Clarksville are not yet known. They were both taken to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville after the boat exploded at the Montgomery County Conservation Club yesterday afternoon. The boat was refueling at the time of the explosion.
Former Governor Bill Haslam is talking about the role Christians can play in politics. His new book, Faithful Presence: The Promise and the Peril of Faith in the Public Square, examines how followers of Christ can help heal the country’s political divisions. Haslam says Christians shouldn’t be self-righteous or condescending, but aware of their shortcomings and open to reason, which he says requires uncomfortable internal reflection. The native of Knoxville says everyone should be careful to make sure they’re being used by God, not using God for their own goals.
The Tennessee State Library and Archives is celebrating 225 years of statehood. The library will have the state’s original three constitutions on public display for one-day only. They can be viewed on Tuesday, June 1st from 8 o’clock in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon Central Time. The Tennessee State Library and Archives is located at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville.
National Safe Boating Week is being held ahead of the Memorial Day weekend. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says there were over 30 boating-related deaths in Tennessee last year. That’s the most on Tennessee waters in nearly 40 years. Just eight deaths were reported in 2019.
