The Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency will be hosting a 2-day FREE food giveaway event in Robertson County set for Wednesday, May 5th and Thursday, May 6th from 9 am to 3 pm at Travis Price Park for any and all Robertson County residents in need. In addition, the United Ministries Food Bank will be holding a Drive-thru Food Pantry on Friday, May 7th from 9-11am at the Willow Street parking lot next to Springfield Baptist Church.

Tennessee is keeping its nine seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.  The state’s apportionment population from the 2020 Census was announced as being well over six-million-900-thousand yesterday.  That’s up by nearly nine percent since the 2010 Census.  The apportionment population determines how many congressional seats each state will get.

Tennessee schools won’t be allowed to offer both in-person and virtual instruction this fall.  The State Board of Education decided earlier this month during a specially-called meeting that students who want to continue remote learning will have to enroll in a virtual school.  Districts have been able to operate under hybrid models of virtual and in-person learning this school year after the Tennessee State Department of Education passed continuous learning plans.  They were created due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival is returning this year.  The 80th annual event is set for May 7th and 8th in Portland.  The festival celebrates Portland’s heritage in the strawberry industry which dates back to the early 1900’s.  The festival has only been canceled twice in its history, once during World War Two and last year due to coronavirus concerns.

A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame is Dead.  The Nashville Songwriters Association International said Charlie Black died on Friday.  Black co-wrote hits for Anne Murray, Reba McEntire and Alan Jackson.  Black was 71-years-old.
