The first sign of Spring. After breaking down the popular Winter Wonderland scenes, J. Travis Price Park has reopened to the public and is already drawing a crowd. Residents now have full access to the greenway trail, playground, basketball court, walking trails, soccer fields, baseball and softball fields, and batting cages. Springfield baseball and softball practice will begin on March 1, and the Springfield High School girls’ soccer team will begin using the public soccer fields and practicing around July 1. Later his month, the High School boys’ soccer team will be doing a 5K race on the greenway trail for a fundraiser.
There are over 31-hundred new coronavirus cases in Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Health reported three-thousand-154 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to 736-thousand-370. Nearly 170 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide over ten-thousand-200. More than 14-hundred COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide. To date, Robertson County has logged 8,247 cases of COVId-19 since the pandemic began. 7,770 have recovered and 101 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.
State wildlife officials are celebrating a huge deer harvest. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says the deer harvest in the state last year was almost 20-percent larger than the previous season. Just short of 160-thousand deer were harvested across the state in 2020. It was the largest harvest in the state in six years.
It’s been 13 years since one of the deadliest tornadoes in state history rolled through Middle Tennessee. The tornado on the night of February 5th, 2008 tore through Macon, Trousdale and neighboring Sumner counties. The twister left 22 people dead and two others died from indirect effects. Forecasters say it’s a reminder that severe weather, including tornadoes isn’t uncommon in this part of the country during the winter months.
