The city of Greenbrier has taken the first steps to raise water and wastewater rates. A 42-page report by the firm RateStudies recommended that Greenbrier increase their water rate by 50% and the wastewater system rate by 30%, both starting in FY 2022, if not sooner. If the measure passes in Greenbrier’s May’s regularly held city meeting, the new rates will go into effect immediately
Tomorrow is a chance for Tennesseans to clear out their medicine cabinets. The Drug Enforcement Administration and Tennessee are teaming up to hold Drug Take Back Day after last year’s event was canceled over coronavirus concerns. Tennesseans can get rid of expired, unused, unwanted and potentially dangerous prescription drugs during the event. There will be nearly 340 authorized drop off locations throughout Tennessee.
The first African-American woman to serve in the Tennessee State Senate is being mourned. Family members say Thelma Harper died peacefully and unexpectedly yesterday morning at the age of 80. Harper first won Nashville’s 19th Senate District in 1990 and represented the city for nearly 30 years. Harper was the longest-serving female State Senator in Tennessee history.
Robertson County Runners should be aware of this: A 5K race benefiting the nonprofit Our Kids is returning to Nashville next month as an in-person race. The 7th annual JE Dunn Hammer Down Race will be held on Saturday, May 15th. The race will start at 7:30 in the morning at JE Dunn Hermitage Avenue, near Lea Avenue. Our Kids is a Nashville organization that provides medical evaluations and counseling for children and families who have experienced child sexual abuse.
A bill stopping local or state governments in Tennessee from requiring residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine is on its way to the State Senate. Legislators in the House passed the bill yesterday. There is currently no requirement in the state to get the vaccine but supporters of the bill say it would make such a requirement illegal.
