It’s not yet known if wind damage in Portland yesterday was caused by a tornado.  Mayor Mike Callis says one may have touched down off Highway 259, near Cook Road.  Pictures posted to social media showed downed trees, an overturned trailer and boarded up windows after they were blown out.  The storm also caused a barn to collapse.

A search warrant executed Wednesday by police netted drugs and cash at a Greenbrier home and two people arrested at that home are now facing a myriad of charges. Greenbrier Police went to a home on Nunley Street in Greenbrier Wednesday morning to serve a warrant.  40-year-old Valarie A Cox of Madison and 37-year-old Shane Adams of Greenbrier were both taken into custody. Greenbrier Police say Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, Marijuana, Heroin, prescription pills, and about $1000 in cash were allegedly found inside the home.

A $15 million plan to build a new elementary school in White House has received approval from the Sumner County Education and Budget committees.  Director of Schools Dr. Del Phillips pointed to residential growth in White House as the need to build another school on land already owned by the county. The new building would be around 50,000-square-feet and room for 600 students

A bill that would restrict gender-affirming healthcare for transgender kids is making its way through the Tennessee State House.  The bill would block some medical care for transgender kids prior to puberty and would add requirements for health care once they start puberty.  It would also require any transgender child who’s entered puberty to have three doctors sign off on their care.  At least one letter from a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist would be among the requirements.

The latest unemployment data shows a decline in both new and continued unemployment claims for the week ending March 20th.  The Tennessee Department of Labor says today the 41-thousand continued claims filed last week are about 34-hundred fewer than the week prior.  New claims dropped by 250 to just over 73-hundred.  Shelby County continues to lead the state in both new and continued jobless claims with over eleven-thousand people claiming benefits.
