Batten down your hatches: Middle Tennessee is facing potentially severe weather. The National Weather Service in Nashville says showers and storms are moving into the area. Forecasters say some of the storms could become strong or severe. They say potentially damaging winds are the main threat.
A statue honoring Black soldiers and their contributions to the Civil War is on display in nearby Franklin, Tennessee. The U.S. Colored Troops statue was unveiled in front of Franklin’s Historic Courthouse on Saturday. The statue is meant to represent the 186-thousand United States Colored Troops who fought for their freedom, and that of the country.
Today is the deadline for victims of historic flooding in the Mid-State to apply for FEMA assistance. The federal assistance is available to folks in Dickson, Hickman, Houston, and Humphreys counties who were impacted by August’s flooding. More than 17 inches of rain fell on the area on August 21st, leading to the deaths of 20 people.
Wildlife experts say there’s a drawback to the weather remaining unseasonably warm so far this fall. They say without a widespread freeze, snakes remain active, including venomous copperheads. The CDC says up to eight-thousand people are bitten by a venomous snake in the U.S. each year. However, only about five of those bites end up being deadly.
Austin Peay State University School of Nursing Career Fair is scheduled from 10:00am–1:00pm on today. Nursing students and related majors are encouraged to attend to meet recruiters sharing information about full-time, part-time, residency, and graduate school opportunities including many in Tennessee, Kentucky. And The College of Business Career Fair, designed for Accounting, Management, Marketing, Finance, and related majors, will be from 10:00am–1:00pm tomorrow. The career fairs will be in the Morgan University Center Ballroom at Austin Peay
