Springfield, White House Heritage, and Jo Byrns had the week offf

The White House Area Chamber of Commerce recently awarded three White House teachers with Educator Innovation – Enhancement Grants.  Mattie Underwood, White House Heritage High School, will start a garden planted on school grounds. Kaci Mexic, White House Heritage Elementary, plans to institute a program for at-risk in reading students to improve their reading skills. And Melissa Bishop, White House Heritage Elementary, has plans for a series of educational tools for Math intervention. The White House Area Chamber of Commerce has given out over $7,000 in grants to teachers since the inception of the Educator Innovation – Enhancement program just last year.

A longtime Major General with the Tennessee National Guard is retiring after more than 40 years with the service.  Major General Tommy Baker retired yesterday after serving 41 years with the National Guard, the last four of which he was Tennessee’s Adjutant General.  As Adjutant General, Baker was responsible for the training and supervision of the 12-thousand members of the Tennessee National Guard.  A ceremony marking his retirement was held at Joint Force Headquarters yesterday in Nashville.

A fallen Hendersonville police officer is being honored.  Officer Spencer Bristol was awarded a Medal of Honor for his service to his community at an event in the nation’s capital on Saturday.  It was part of the 40th Annual National Police Officers Memorial.  Officer Bristol was hit and killed in 2019 during a chase on I-65 South near Goodlettsville.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is hiring.  TDOT will hold a rapid hiring event today and tomorrow from 8:30 in the morning until 3 o’clock in the afternoon in the R3 Complex Building A’s auditorium on Centennial Boulevard.  TDOT is looking to immediately hire operations technicians who are willing to work day and night shifts within the Davidson and Williamson County areas.  Candidates must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
