It’s hot and getting hotter. Roberton County and Middle Tennessee will be under a heat advisory today and tomorrow.  The National Weather Service says the advisory will be in effect from 11 o’clock in the morning until 8 at night both days.  Some heat indexes are expected to be as high as 109 degrees.  

An adult and an 8-month-old received only minor injuries after their vehicle left Memorial Blvd at S. Pawnee Dr in Springfield and rolled down an embankment, hit a bridge, and landed upside down in a creek. First responders say the child was upside down in the inverted vehicle still locked in a child safety seat. The adult was able to climb out on their own. The Springfield Police Department is investigating the crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is hiring.  THP is looking for its next round of recruits for trooper cadet class in January of next year.  Applications are being accepted through 11:59 Central Time on the night of Tuesday, August 31st.  Candidates must apply online.

A road trip advisory: Elvis Week starts today and runs through next Tuesday in Memphis.  The annual event marks the passing of Elvis on August 16th, 1977 and celebrates his life and music.  Tickets for events and a full schedule can be found at ElvisWeek.com.  For those who can’t make it to Memphis, there’s the Virtual Elvis Week 2021: Live From Graceland option.

A mask mandate is going into effect at Austin Peay State University.  APSU said yesterday masks will be required for all indoor facilities on campus.  It covers all students, staff, and faculty members regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status.  The policy goes into effect today.
