A Robertson County woman filed a $500,000 federal lawsuit against Austin Peay State University. The suit claims on-the-job discrimination and retaliation on the basis of race. Chinyere Ogbonna-McGruder, who is Black, was a faculty member who taught classes in criminal justice and public management at Austin Peay since 2003. She said she was denied her opportunity to self-select her department and, because of her race, had the decision made for her by a college dean instead. McGruder also said she was excluded from participation in a group of other professors from the college of behavioral and health sciences who were drafting a grant proposal for a project in Montgomery County. McGruder claims she was denied an annual evaluation in 2020 in realiation.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding a runaway teen.  MCSO says 13-year-old Kyler Michael Owens was last seen on the afternoon of Monday, August 2nd.  Kyler was last seen by his grandmother at the Hi-Way 48 Market at the intersection of Highway 48/13 and Seven Mile Ferry Road.  Kyler is described as five-eight, 100 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Remote Area Medical- a major nonprofit provider of pop-up clinics delivering free, quality, dental, vision and medical care to underserved and uninsured individuals—will return to Springfield, August 14th to provide free care. No ID is required. Free dental, vision, and medical services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The one-day clinic, in collaboration with members of the local community, will be held at The Center, located at 401 North Main St.

Marcus Ericsson is the winner of the first-ever Music City Grand Prix.  The win by the Swedish driver helped him move into fifth place in the IndyCar series points with five races left.  Nearly 30 cars participated in the 80-lap race course through the streets of downtown Nashville.  It’s the first new street course race added to the schedule in ten years.

The Robertson County Museum & Historical Society will be hosting The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James Festival on Saturday, August 14th on the Courthouse Square in Springfield, It will include a reenactment of a bank robbery complete with a shootout. There will also be  screenings of the movie The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James throughout the day. The movie, which starred Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, and Willie Nelson, contains scenes filmed in and around the Robertson County Courthouse in 1985.
