There are nearly 33-hundred new coronavirus cases in Tennessee and 38 of them are in Robertson County.  The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to nearly 910-thousand-200.  An additional 15 COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at nearly 12-thousand-800.  There are over 14-hundred COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee.

Steven Wiggins is guilty of the shooting death of Dickson County Sheriff’s Sergeant Daniel Baker.  The jury found Wiggins guilty of all charges yesterday in the May of 2018 killing.  Wiggins was convicted of premeditated first degree murder, abuse of a corpse and felony murder, among other charges.  The sentencing phase will begin tomorrow with Wiggins facing a potential death sentence.

The TBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Mt. Juliet.  Mt. Juliet police say a man was shot yesterday after chasing others with a knife at a Kroger grocery store.  Police say the man was shot as he came towards the officer with a knife after repeated warnings to stop.  The man was taken to a hospital and no one else was injured

The inaugural IndyCar Music City Grand Prix is set for Sunday afternoon.  Nearly 30 cars will try to take the checkered flag after 80 laps on the over two-mile course through the streets of downtown Nashville.  The race is scheduled to start at 5:45.  Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation officials say events associated with the race could have over a 20-million-dollar impact on the city.

The Robertson County Museum & Historical Society will be hosting The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James Festival on Saturday, August 14th on the Courthouse Square in Springfield, It will include a reenactment of a bank robbery complete with a shootout. There will also be  screenings of the movie The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James throughout the day. The movie, which starred Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, and Willie Nelson, contains scenes filmed in and around the Robertson County Courthouse in 1985.
