Deputies think they’ve solved a series of mailbox burglaries. Late last month, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Fisher Grove Road, about two men who appeared to be sleeping in what the caller said was a suspicious vehicle. The deputies noticed a large amount of mail hidden near the vehicle, as well as several pieces of mail and items inside the vehicle which appeared to be stolen from local milboxes. 24 year-old Miguel Morales and 23-year-old Erik Perez were tken to the Robertson Cointy Jail.
A friend of accused murderer Steven Wiggins is giving potentially damaging testimony at his trial. Wiggins could get the death penalty if convicted of killing Dickson County Sheriff’s Sergeant Daniel Baker in May of 2018. A friend of Wiggins said yesterday that he warned Wiggins about carrying a gun in Dickson County. The man said Wiggins replied that if anyone tried to arrest him, he would kill them.
If you are headed into Nashville, you may want to re-route your trip. Portions of some roads in downtown Nashville are beginning to close ahead of this weekend’s inaugural Music City Grand Prix. Most will reopen by August 12th. All streets connected to I-24 and Exit 49 will be closed during the duration of the Grand Prix.
A bipartisan bill introduced by a Tennessee Republican is designed to help protect Americans from being scammed. Congressman David Kustoff has joined Democratic Congresswoman Deborah Ross of North Carolina to introduce legislation creating stricter penalties for harassing robocalls. Congressman Kustoff urges swift passage of the Do Not Call ACT to put and end to scams and predatory robocalls.
The Nashville Zoo is expanding, adding a 40-acre, 200-million-dollar African Safari exhibit. Zoo officials say visitors will feel as if they’re on safari in Africa. The zoo hopes the expansion will be completed in the spring of 2023. Once it’s finished, it will make the Nashville Zoo the ninth largest in the country.
The Robertson County Museum & Historical Society will be hosting The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James Festival on Saturday, August 14th on the Courthouse Square in Springfield, It will include a reenactment of a bank robbery complete with a shootout. There will also be screenings of the movie The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James throughout the day. The movie, which starred Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, and Willie Nelson, contains scenes filmed in and around the Robertson County Courthouse in 1985.
