Springfield Electric and the Tennessee Valley Authority has given $20,000 to United Way of Greater Nashville through TVA’s Community Care Fund program to help the community during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.  The Fund was launched  in April 2020 to help address hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic. It has provided support to 344 nonprofits and community programs across the TVA service territory, totaling a combined $4.7 million in assistance.  In addition to Springfield Electric, 136 other power companies have participated in the program, resulting in TVA announcing it will double its total commitment to $4 million in matching funds.

Four horses in Tennessee have now tested positive for Potomac Horse Fever.  Cases in Hawkins, Robertson, and Sullivan counties are in addition to the Wilson County case announced earlier this month where a horse was diagnosed with PHF and had to be euthanized. The disease is caused by bacteria thought to be carried by aquatic snail larvae and and flies. Horses that live near bodies of water or low-lying areas that could collect stagnant water are at risk. In addition to clean drinking water, horse owners can reduce risk of exposure by turning off insect-attracting stable lights at night. Contact your veterinarian for a vaccine that can help.

A former high school band director in Montgomery County is being indicted for theft.  An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office determined that Brock Cobb stole over 27-hundred-dollars from Rossville High School band’s spring break fund.  Money was collected to pay for a trip to New York City last year, but when that didn’t happen because of the pandemic the funds were returned.  But the returned funds were less than what was originally paid and that prompted an investigation by the Comptroller.
