Nashville authorities said they’re pursuing strong leads to identify the people responsible for Saturday’s shooting near Tennessee State University that killed one and injured nine others. Metro Police say there was an exchange of gunfire between two groups near the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North. Authorities said the shell casings found on Jefferson Street indicate the suspects were shooting at each other from opposite sides of the street as the crowd was starting to thin out since the TSU homecoming football game began at 5 p.m. over at Nissan Stadium.

Cheatham County farmers and residents gathered Saturday morning in Ashland City to protest the Tennessee Valley Authority’s “Cheatham County Generation Project.” Dozens of farmers paused their harvest to parade through the streets on their tractors, while community members lined the route to show their support. Many farmers and community members expressed concerns over the controversial project, emphasizing that the proposed site is not zoned for industrial use. Safety concerns regarding Cheatham County school students were also a major issue raised by several farmers and citizens. Five schools are within a five-mile radius of the proposed TVA site, raising worries about air quality for the county’s youngest population.
