Hurricane Helene landed as a Category 4 hurricane at 10:10 p.m. (CT) in the Big Bend area of Florida. It is expected to bring catastrophic storm surges and life-threatening winds to that area before moving to Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Heavy rain and gusty winds will be here through Saturday morning, but the storm will continue to impact us through the weekend as it stalls out over us.
A man reported missing in Henry County has been identified as a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell. The U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) confirmed the missing man is Pfc. John Jackson. Director of Public Affairs Lt. Col. Marty Meiners said Campbell is “working closely with civil authorities in their efforts to ensure he is found as soon as possible.” The Henry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said Jackson was last seen in the Paris Landing area Wednesday, Sept. 25. His vehicle was parked on the bridge there but he was nowhere to be found. Anyone with information on Jackson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
September is Deaf Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge and celebrate our neighbors who are deaf or hard of hearing. Communication with the deaf can be difficult. If you don’t know the language, gesturing and understanding gestures are crucial to ASL. Writing with a phone or pen and paper is another option to get a message across. New statistics show that 20% of Tennesseans have hearing loss.
