In an unusual public hearing, a Wilson County teacher of the year will go before an ethics committee after a complaint was filed against her by a newly elected school board member. According to the complaint, the teacher posted online about an interaction between that school board member and another teacher during a parent-teacher conference. Per the complaint, she claimed online that the school board member was yelling at the teacher. The complaint filed by Greg Hohman said the teacher “concocted” the whole story and Hohman is now asking the teacher to be held accountable and is asking for a public apology from the school.
The Cross Plains police and fire departments will once again be hosting their annual Community Safety Day on Saturday, Aug. 24. Families and kids of all ages are invited to come out from 10 am to 2 pm at Kilgore Park to learn about bicycle safety, fire extinguisher safety, and weather safety. Parents and their children will have the chance to meet first responders and explore police cruisers, medical helicopters, fire trucks, and ambulances. At least three medical helicopters are planning to be at the event, with a commitment from TriStar Skyline Medical Center to display their new SkyLife specialized helicopter. Tennessee Highway Patrol will also be bringing a helicopter and feature a rollover simulator and driving simulator for visitors.
The City of Springfield says the William A. Batson Parkway Extension will soon be open to the public. It will connect Memorial Blvd. and Tom Austin Highway, offering residents a convenient new route. The city is introducing a new traffic configuration at the intersection of Blackpatch Drive and William A. Batson Parkway. To improve safety and manage traffic flow effectively, a four-way stop will be implemented at this intersection.
