A Fort Campbell soldier accused of selling U.S. military secrets to China pled guilty Tuesday. U.S. Army Sgt. Korbein Schultz says he is guilty of conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information, exporting technical data related to defense articles without a license, conspiracy to export defense articles without a license, and bribery of a public official. Schultz’s sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 23. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for conspiracy, 20 years for exporting technical without a license, 20 years for conspiracy to violate the Arms Export Control Act, and 15 years for bribery of a public official.

Mt. Juliet 911 dispatchers now have a new job title. In a Monday night Board of Commissioners meeting, city leaders followed Wilson County’s lead in changing 911 dispatchers from “clerical staff” to first responders. A resolution from Mt. Juliet and Wilson County explained how 911 dispatchers “play a critical role” in public safety. They make split-second decisions while maintaining life-saving communication between the caller, EMS, police, or fire. This unanimous vote recognizes 911 dispatchers, but the federal government still needs to decide on the 911 Saves Act to give dispatchers similar benefits to first responders.

A Portland Army veteran said Sumner County has been wrongly charging those who served our country for possibly more than a decade. Chris Shoemaker went to get a new license plate back in May and the Sumner County Clerk’s Office charged him an extra $51 wheel tax, which he knew he didn’t have to pay. Shoemaker then reached out to the county who admitted they made a mistake. The Sumner County Clerk said they have put steps in place to prevent this from happening again.

Officers are searching for a man accused of robbing a Clarksville convenience store last week. Clarksville Police Department reports a clerk called 911, saying they had been robbed at the Speedway Cafe on Providence Boulevard. Police say a white man wearing a grey Colorado Rockies shirt, grey shorts, a grey snapback hat, and sunglasses entered the store and demanded money from the register. The victim said the suspect had a firearm on his hip but never displayed it during the alleged incident. Security cameras caught photos of the suspect, who has a chinstrap-style beard, a tattoo above his left and right wrist, and a possible tattoo on his left calf.
