At their monthly meeting tonight, the Wilson County Commission will consider raising the county’s wheel tax by $50 to help increase pay for the county’s employees. If passed, the wheel tax would increase from $25 to $75, effective Jan. 1st. Budget Director Aaron Maynard told the commission’s budget committee that increasing the wheel tax would raise around $6 million.

A mid-morning boom that neighbors thought was a lightning strike, a sonic boom even, was something else. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, but investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation believe the blast was intentional.

A law that lowers the threshold for enhanced DUI sentences takes effect on July 1st. The new blood alcohol content (BAC) threshold goes from 0.2 to 0.15. The legal BAC limit in Tennessee is still 0.08. But now, if someone registers at nearly twice that, they could face stiffer penalties. The current law forces anyone who blows a 0.2 BAC and is found guilty of the charge to spend 7 days in jail. Soon, that number will be down to 1.5.
