Severe storms and tornadoes make their way through the Volunteer State and Midwest, and power outages have been reported in multiple areas. The City of Springfield lost power to a “majority of the city” shortly after a suspected tornado crossed through Robertson County. Springfield officials said power has since been restored to the majority of the city, but customers near Kinneys School Road continue to be affected due to fallen trees. Yesterday’s storms follow two confirmed tornadoes from Monday, May 6. One was reported in Wilson County and another in Smithville in DeKalb County.

On Lewis Downs Drive in Christiana, a 9-year-old boy was sucked into a storm drain after attempting to grab his shoe. the boy is the son of the Rutherford County Director of Schools. The 9-year-old is reportedly in critical but stable condition at last check. In a message to parents Wednesday night the school system asked that you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at Nashville International Airport (BNA) due to weather. According to BNA, if the flight is in the air, it’s allowed to arrive at this time. If it’s not left the airport of origin to come to BNA, it’s delayed. All departures to BNA are grounded due to ongoing thunderstorms.

Three people were brought to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following an explosion at Strictly FX a Nashville special effects company at Airpark Center East. Three people were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-critical injuries after the explosion. The explosion created a gas leak in the building, so HAZMAT units responded to the scene, according to officials.

An entire shift of first responders at the Portland Police Department are being hailed as heroes after they revived a choking toddler. On April 26, around 11 am, it shows a red car pulling into the parking lot, and a woman getting out and grabbing a child before running into the lobby frantically pleading for help because her baby was choking. Officer Dylan Ladd, a 2-year veteran, began performing the Heimlich Maneuver attempting to dislodge the chicken nugget from the child’s throat. Portland Police Chief Jason Williams said he is proud of his officers and the training they put to good use.
