Multiple Middle Tennessee school districts will be closed on Wednesday, May 8, due to the threat of severe weather across the area. The National Weather Service has confirmed a second tornado touched down during Monday’s storms, An EF0 tornado touched down in Wilson County on Big Springs Road in Lebanon. According to NWS, the estimated peak winds for the Wilson County tornado reached 70 miles an hour and the tornado path stretched half a mile long in Lebanon. The path width was estimated at 50 yards.
Cheatham County residents are sounding off on a proposed Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) gas plant impacting hundreds of families. Concerns started this time last year when Cheatham County homeowners learned the TVA was looking at adding a 75-acre gas plant that would run straight through their community. The protest happening Wednesday is at 4:30 p.m. at Centennial Park. It will come after that TVA’s hosted meeting. The listening session is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lipscomb University.
An entire shift of first responders at the Portland Police Department are being hailed as heroes after they revived a choking toddler. On April 26, around 11 am, it shows a red car pulling into the parking lot, and a woman getting out and grabbing a child before running into the lobby frantically pleading for help because her baby was choking. Officer Dylan Ladd, a 2-year veteran, began performing the Heimlich Maneuver attempting to dislodge the chicken nugget from the child’s throat. Portland Police Chief Jason Williams said he is proud of his officers and the training they put to good use.
