Tennessee’s top COVID vaccine official is out of a job.  Dr. Michelle Fiscus was fired yesterday.  Dr. Fiscus was the medical director for vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization programs for the Tennessee Department of Health.  Fiscus says she believes she was fired due to political pressure over efforts to vaccinate Tennessee’s kids.

Remote Area Medical, a major nonprofit provider of pop-up clinics will return to Springfield on August 14^th. To help treat as many people as possible, RAM is still in need of licensed medical, vision, and dental professionals to volunteer their time throughout the weekend. All RAM services are free, and no ID is required. The one-day clinic will be held at The Center on North Main St.  Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

More than 30 crew members remain on board a cruise ship that was headed to Nashville from Memphis when it got stuck on a sandbar in Lake Barkley last Wednesday.  American Cruise Lines says some of those are new crew members who have been brought in to take the ship to its next destination once it’s freed from the sandbar.  Some members of the crew left the ship on Sunday.

The Tennessee State Library in Nashville is inviting Tennesseans to take a tour.  Saturday was the first of the so-called Second Saturday Tours.  The library is offering guided tours of the new facility through October.  The tours include interactive exhibits and access to the state’s archives.

The adopted son of a slain elderly couple was extradited to Clarksville Saturday after being charged with their 2010 double murder. 63-year-old William Roger Campbell was indicted on two counts of first degree murder in the shooting deaths of 82-year-old William Campbell and his wife, 81-year-old Ina Campbell.   William Roger Campbell was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. No further information was immediately available
