It’s hot and getting hotter.  An excessive heat warning is in effect until midnght Friday with the heat ndex expected to soar to between 11 to 115.

State officials confirm over two dozen arrests were made for Boating Under The Influence during the Independence Day weekend.  Matt Cameron with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says 25-BUI arrests were made during the agency’s Operation Dry Water.  Cameron says the enforcement campaign is year round but it gets ramped up over the Independence Day holiday every year because of an increase in boating activity in general around the state.

Some of the cost to get a new Tennessee license plate is waived for a year.  The measure went into effect July 1st and lasts through June 30th next year.  The state level fee is waived for Class A and B motor vehicle registrations which include motorcycles, cars and motor homes.  Other fees assessed for safety purposes, fees to register electric vehicles and county level registration fees aren’t included in the waiver.

Police in Clarksville say phone scammers are contacting area residents and impersonating officers.  They are using caller I-D spoofing to make it appear as though the calls are coming from the department and then demanding that citizens make payments in order to avoid arrest.  CPD says no law enforcement agency accepts money to resolve outstanding warrants, and they will never request payments over the phone.  They ask citizens to avoid providing any personal information unless it’s for a transaction they know to be legitimate.
