A heat advisory is in effect for Middle Tennessee today. The warning runs until midnight on Friday. Meteorologists say temperatures nearing one-hundred combined with high humidity could result in heat indexes up to one-hundred-ten. Experts urge area residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities this week, stay hydrated, and check in on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
Registration is now open for youth baseball and softball in Springfield. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is offering the leagues this fall for area residents ages four through 12. If you want to vote in the primary and in the November general elections have through today to register. Registration can be done online at GoVoteTN-dot-Gov or with a mail-in registration postmarked with today’s date. The primaries are August 4th with an option to request an absentee ballot no later than July 28.
Some popular fish species in Cheatham, Dale Hollow and Center Hill lakes have been declared unsafe to eat by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation due to chemical contaminants. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and children are advised not to eat any amount of these fish. All others are advised to “limit consumption to one meal a month.” Warning signs will be posted at public access points around the lakes.
The state’s unemployment site is back online. The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development said yesterday that its jobless benefits site is ready to go again after getting hacked last week. The same cyber attack affected several similar sites in other states.
