The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is issuing an air quality alert for Middle Tennessee again today.  High levels of ozone or fine particle pollution could be in the atmosphere.  Doctor Stokes Peebles with Vanderbilt Medical Center says those with lung and heart disease, older people, and children are most affected by poor air quality.  Ozone levels typically reach their peak between 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. in Middle Tennessee.

Meteorologists say ongoing hot weather and a lack of precipitation may lead to drought conditions.  Sam Shamburger with the National Weather Service reports moderate drought levels are possible for parts of Middle Tennessee by next month.  Currently, around 13 percent of the state is experiencing abnormally dry conditions.  Shamburger says soil and groundwater levels are still good in the Nashville area, as rainfall is around three inches above average for the year.

State and local officials, and other members of the White House community gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week for the grand opening of the Billy S. Hobbs Community Center.  The brand-new facility contains three floors of government and administrative offices, including a new board room for mayor and alderman meetings, as well as a senior center and rooms for community events.  Following the ribbon-cutting and the open house of the community center, the board of mayor and aldermen held their first monthly meeting inside the new boardroom.
