Robertson County country music fans who are visiting the CMA fest are noticing increased security for this year’s massive gathering. Officials have placed barriers to keep vehicles out of some areas and metal detectors are in use at various festival stages. Metro Police Captain Dayton Wheeler says, in addition to department personnel, there are private security guards working downtown, and some retired officers are contributing to traffic control. Captain Wheeler is also reminding concert-goers that law enforcement has not found any credible threats of violence, despite ongoing social media rumors.
Health officials are reporting a rise in COVID-19 cases across the state. Metro Coronavirus Task Force leader, Doctor Alex Jahangir [[ Jah-Hahn-Geer ]] says total cases and hospitalizations are up around 30 percent over the last several weeks. The doctor does add that, overall, hospitalizations and deaths remain much lower than they were during previous surges of the illness. The Tennessee Department of Health reported around 16-hundred new COVID-19 cases per day over the last week.
There is no license required to go fishing around the state tomorrow. The state’s Wildlife Resources Agency says Saturday, June 11th is the 2022 Free Fishing Day for everyone. TWRA officials say the idea is to foster greater public interest in angling. In the case of kids 15 and under, the freebie is extended from June 11th through June 17th. New state law under Public Chapter 1143 Tennessee is in effect causing Tennesseans to save a little extra money on their registration fees for new renewals after July 1, 2022, and before June 30, 2023, through the Department of Revenue.“We want to make sure motorists are aware they will not pay this state registration fee when they renew their registration during the next fiscal year,” Revenue Commissioner David Gerregano said in a press release. “However, other fees may still apply.”For more information, be sure to check with the local county clerk.
