The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony this morning. The event is planned for 10:00 a.m. at William O. Beach Civic Hall in Clarksville. Local officials will be in attendance with retired Brigadier General Scott Brower serving as keynote speaker. A wreath-laying ceremony will follow the remarks.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says troopers will be out on the road this Memorial Day weekend. The department says officers will hold saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints to go with an increased presence on Tennessee roads. Officials said the T-H-P arrested 78 people on suspicion of D-U-I and issued more than 1,800 speeding tickets during the holiday weekend last year.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is asking boaters to keep safety in mind this Memorial Day weekend. TWRA officials stress using proper lifejackets and avoiding alcohol when operating boats. The agency says they are looking to reduce the number of boating fatalities in the Volunteer State, after reporting an average of 20 each year since 2016.
On Thursday, May 26th, the City of Ridgetop Sewer Department accidentally connected a residential wastewater service line to a White House Utility District water line. A boil order for the water was issued to make it safe before use. Officials sent water samples to a lab for testing. The boil order was finally lifted on Saturday.
