The northern section of Highway 431 in Springfield, also known as Tom Austin Hwy., was previously expanded to five lanes in recent years, from the Highway 41 intersection to Old Hwy. 431. A new project aims to widen the remaining portion of Tom Austin from the county line all the way to I-24.  The project will cost between $2.5-$5 million and although most of the project will actually be in Davidson County, it will benefit those that commute to and from Nashville into Robertson County.  It’s a multi-year project and will continue until its completion.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says troopers will be out on the road this Memorial Day weekend. The department says officers will hold saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints to go with an increased presence on Tennessee roads. Officials said the T-H-P arrested 78 people on suspicion of D-U-I and issued more than 1,800 speeding tickets during the holiday weekend last year.

A road rally featuring exotic cars and celebrity guests is set to make a stop in Middle Tennessee on Memorial Day.  The Gumball Three-Thousand is returning for its 22nd annual event after a two-year hiatus.  One hundred cars make a six-day drive from Toronto to Miami to raise money for various youth projects.  The organization’s charity is holding a fundraiser auction at the National Museum of African American Music Monday.

Flags at federal buildings and military posts in Middle Tennessee are to be flown at half-staff through sunset Saturday after this week’s tragic shooting at a Texas elementary school.  19 children and two adult victims are dead, with police noting that the 18-year-old suspect has also died, likely killed by responding officers at Robb Elementary in Uvalde [[ you-VAHL-dee ]].
