A survey of how much each state spends on every public school student lists Tennessee among the states spending the least. The U.S. Census Bureau released a report analyzing the amount spent on students. In 2020 New York spent the most with an average of just over 25-thousand-500-dollars per pupil. The national average is 13-thousand-500-dollars. Tennessee spends an average of 99-hundred-dollars per student.
A suspect was arrested yesterday in connection to the fatal shooting at a high school graduation on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. Police say an unidentified 17-year-old was taken into custody in Clarksville for the shooting that killed 18-year-old Hasani Brewer-Gant. According to investigators, the suspect shot Brewer-Gant and a 17-year-old following an altercation near the Murphy Center, where commencement ceremonies for Riverdale High School were taken place. The victim reportedly graduated from Riverdale last year.
Tuition at Tennessee’s public colleges and universities will not increase for the next school year after a vote from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission froze those tuition rates for the first time. The board sets annual tuition and fee ranges that must be followed by the state’s public universities, colleges and Tennessee College of Applied Technology campuses.
