One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. Officials say it happened last night following the Riverdale High School graduation. The victims have nit yet been identified. The suspect is still at large. Riverdale High School will be closed today “as a precaution.”
A student who made threats of violence at West Creek Middle School in Clarksville has been identified and charges are pending. The threats were taken seriously and parents were reminded that state law allowed the school to press charges for recklessly threatening to commit an act of mass violence on school property or at a school-related activity, no matter the means of communication. Even non-credible threats are chargeable.
Consumer watchdogs are warning mothers of an uptick in scams surrounding baby formula. Robyn Householder with the Better Business Bureau says they are getting reports of moms ordering products online and not receiving anything. Householder says what’s worse is some items sold as baby formula have turned out to be something else entirely. The Better Business Bureau is asking mothers to report suspicious sales to their offices, or if need be, the police.
Emergency Management Agency leaders in Wilson County say they are seeing critical employee shortages. EMA Director Joey Cooper has petitioned county commissioners to raise wages in an attempt to draw workers. Chief Deputy Mike Owen says a lack of correctional officers at the county jail is causing a dangerous situation for existing officers that are short-staffed. Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan is planning a job fair to attract new deputies.
The City of Springfield’s Freedom Fest, presented by Grace Baptist Church, will take place on Sunday, July 3rd at the Robertson County Fairgrounds. This family-friendly event is free and the fairgrounds will open at 3 p.m. with music beginning at 3:45 p.m. Seating will be available inside the arena. You’re welcome to bring chairs and blankets. The free concert will include performances by Grammy-nominated gospel band High Road, local artists, and the The Oak Ridge Boys. The evening will conclude with the city’s largest fireworks display beginning at 9:00 p.m. Free parking is available at the fairgrounds, Legion Park, and J. Travis Price Park.
