Two Middle Tennessee deputies are being credited with saving the lives of children. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled the two children out of a burning home yesterday afternoon. The deputies and the children were taken to the hospital. Both deputies are being treated for smoke inhalation and listed in stable condition while the children are with their mother.
Tennessee has a voter fraud protection system in place. The Text to Report Voter Fraud system is meant to give voters a safe and convenient way to alert the Secretary of State’s Division of Elections office about any Election Day issues. Voters can text 45995 to get a link to submit their concerns. County primaries are being held across the state today.
Three commencement ceremonies to honor the Austin Peay State University’s Spring 2022 graduates are on the schedule for May 6th. At 9 a.m. in the Dunn Center, will celebrate the undergraduate degree candidates from the College of Business and the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences. At 1 p.m. in the Dunn Center undergraduate degree candidates in the College of Arts and Letters, the College of STEM, and the Eriksson College of Education, as well as anyone earning a Bachelor of Science in General Studies or an Associate of Science in Liberal Arts will graduate. Then, at 4 PM the University will celebrate all graduate students, earning a master’s degree or above.
A Cheatham County leader is now facing multiple charges including three counts of rape. Commissioner Gary Binkley has been indicted in connection with an incident reported last September. He is set to appear for an arraignment hearing next Monday. An attorney representing Binkley says the rape and sexual battery allegations against him are false.
Public school funding is changing in Tennessee. Governor Bill Lee signed his new funding formula at his high school alma mater in Franklin yesterday. The Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act was passed by both the state House and Senate last month. The new formula will provide a base allocation of nearly seven thousand dollars per student but add funding for students with additional needs.
