Middle Tennessee could face severe storms today.  The National Weather Service in Nashville says the biggest threat is west of I-65.  Forecasters say damaging straight-line winds and tornadoes are possible.  The storms are expected to pass through the Mid State late this afternoon through the overnight.

The White House Library is hosting the Storybook Trail ribbon cutting on Monday at 11:30 am.  The first of its kind in White House, the trail starts at the Andrew Jackson Trailhead, located next to Sonic on Hwy 76. The trail is less than half a mile long and features the book “Red House Tree House Little Bitty Brown Mouse” by Jane Godwin and illustrated by Blanca Gomez.  The pages of the book are printed on 17 metal panels that line the trail. In addition to the story, at the bottom of each panel is an interactive question for kids ages 3 to 7.

It’s Work Zone Awareness Week in Tennessee and the Tennessee Department of Transportation is asking drivers to slow down and use more caution.  TDOT says there were over four thousand crashes in work zones in Tennessee last year.  TDOT says 112 of its workers have been killed on the job since 1948.

The Springfield Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to promote “Slow Down Tennessee.” From April 15 through 29, the Springfield Police Department will increase education, awareness, and enforcement efforts to help reduce speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities statewide.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation are suspending interstate construction for the upcoming Easter holiday.  The move is due to increased travel over the weekend.  Road work that requires lane closures will stop at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and resume at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18th. Drive carefully and remember to hang up, buckle up, and slow down.
