The National Weather Service in Nashville says there’s a chance of severe weather today, mainly in the afternoon. Forecasters say the main threats are from damaging straight-line winds and an isolated tornado or two. The National Weather Service says the timing and storm intensity could change and that Middle Tennesseans should be weather aware.
Enrollment in community colleges across Tennessee is down. The state’s community colleges have over 14-thousand-400 fewer students on campus compared to two years ago. From 2019 to 2021, enrollment declined by 16 percent. The falling enrollment is leading to cuts at some of the schools.
There’s a reading crisis across Tennessee. Less than 33 percent of eighth-grade students rated proficient on the 2021 statewide reading tests. Educators claim students fell behind during the COVID outbreak due to remote learning. Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, Tennessee will invest billions of dollars in education funding with the goal of helping each student read proficiently by the third grade.
Wyatt, Willow, and Elizabeth are just a few of the top baby names in Tennessee this year. That’s according to an annual list put together by Names-dot-org [[ names.org ]], based on data from the Social Security Administration. Liam takes the top spot for boys, while Olivia is the number-one girl name.
Robertson County Schools is hosting an educational career fair this Friday from Noon to 4:00. Principals and supervisors will be available for questions and interviews. While it is encouraged to attend the career fair to have a broader sense of areas you may be suited to serve in, there is still possible to apply online as well.
