Tennessee’s population could grow by about one million to nearly eight million people over the next 20 years. That’s the analysis from the University of Tennessee’s Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research. The analysis says most of the growth will happen in 13 counties making up the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area. From 2020 to 2040 the state’s population is also expected to get older with the number of seniors growing by nearly 40 percent.
The state Senate is passing a bill prohibiting state, county, and other public officials from imposing restrictions on churches and other religious organizations during a state of emergency, major disaster, or natural disaster. It would also bar county health officers from issuing orders to close or limit the operations of churches and religious organizations. The Tennessee Senate passed the legislation yesterday, while the house version passed during the last assembly.
