Tennessee lawmakers are considering a bill that would make it a crime if gun owners don’t safely store guns left in vehicles.  The bill would require gun owners to keep firearms and ammunition out of sight.  It would need to be locked away in trunks, utility boxes, glove boxes, or a securely locked box attached to cars or boats.  If passed, it wouldn’t include jail time or fines, but gun owners would have to go to a court-approved gun safety course.

A school library bill is on Governor Bill Lee’s desk.  The Age-Appropriate Materials Act of 2022 would require public school libraries to publish the list of materials in their collections and periodically review them to make sure they’re appropriate for the age and maturity levels of the students who may have access.  A separate school library bill that could lead to charges against librarians if “obscene” material is found in a school’s collection may be discussed today by House and Senate education committees.

A White House High School teacher and football coach is facing charges after authorities say he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student.  Officials with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office say 26-year-old Christopher Gunnar Scholato met the student off-campus and engaged in sexual activity at least two times last December.  According to investigators Scholato also requested nude photos from the victim and sent unsolicited nude images of himself.  Scholato is charged with four counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and other charges in the case

A paramedic in Sumner County is facing charges after authorities say he stole drugs from ambulances.  According to federal court documents,  Travis Alan Stenberg stole fentanyl, morphine, and ketamine from locked narcotics boxes and replaced the drugs with saline solution.  Sumner County Assistant District Attorney Tara Wyllie says Stenberg faces a range of charges including theft and drug offenses and official misconduct.  Stenberg is scheduled to appear in court in May.
