About 39-million people visited Tennessee’s state parks last year.  The Tennessee Department of Environment says the visits had over two billion dollars in economic impact for Tennessee.  Officials say Tennessee’s state parks are in a unique position to help the state since Tennessee is within a day’s drive for half of the country.  Tennessee state parks have seen up to a 30-percent increase in visitors over the last two years.

Tennessee law enforcement officers are trying to make the I-65 corridor safer from Alabama to the Kentucky line.  They launched Operation Impact 65 on Sunday.  State traffic records show there were nearly 20 deaths, over 900 crashes, and more than 400 property damage crashes along the I-65 corridor last year.  The Tennessee Department of Homeland Security says 45 officers stopped hundreds of cars, issuing over 280 tickets.

Democrats in the Tennessee Legislature are asking Governor Bill Lee to place a moratorium on gas and diesel taxes.  The request comes as fuel costs rise and are expected to go higher with today’s ban of Russian oil imports announced by President Biden.  Lawmakers say the temporary moratorium on fuel tax would benefit working families.  Representative John Ray Clemens says the state has the money in its rainy day fund to cover a tax moratorium.

The owner of a Clarksville animal rescue is facing animal cruelty charges after nearly one-hundred cats were seized from the property.  Montgomery County Animal Care and Control Director David Kaske say the owner of Cats Are Us has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.  Ninety-four cats, many of which were sick, were removed from the facility.  Kaske says the owner was overwhelmed after taking in too many animals and was unable to properly care for them.
