A Middle Tennessee church is paying off medical bills for tornado victims in western Kentucky. Madison Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville partnered with non-profit RIP Medical Debt to buy one-and-a-half-million dollars in outstanding hospital payments. Instead of bills, those who owed the money received bright yellow envelopes saying their debts had been forgiven. Nearly 80 people were killed in Kentucky during December’s tornado outbreak.
The president of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination won’t seek reelection. Southern Baptist Convention President Ed Litton said yesterday he wants to devote more time to an initiative focused on racial reconciliation in Alabama, where his church is located. Litton said he believes it’s something God is calling on him to do over the next five to ten years. The Nashville-based denomination will elect a new president at its annual meeting this June.
The Nashville Zoo is opening an animatronic dinosaur exhibit this month. The 20-foot tall dinosaurs were delivered to the zoo Monday The exhibit, called DinoTrek, opens on March eleventh and runs through the middle of summer, and features 20 dinosaurs including the fearsome T-Rex. The Robertson County Commission has earned the first annual OpenMeeting Technologies Board Award. This award was created to recognize excellence in local government meetings by both individuals and whole boards for their commitment to exceeding expectations while running their meetings. Local governments, like Robertson County, have been modernizing their meeting technology to boost public confidence, improve meeting efficiency, and enhance public experience.
