Today is Presidents Day and that means banks and federal government offices including the Post Office will be closed, and there won’t be mail delivery. Some state offices and schools will be closed as well and there won’t be any trading on the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq. Most banks will be closed but most other businesses and restaurants will be open and more than a few will offer Presidents Day specials.
Robertson Countians will have another wet week. Heavy rainfall is expected this week with the National Weather Service predicting two rounds of rain starting tonight and lasting all day tomorrow. The rain is expected to wrap up early Wednesday morning. Forecasters say flooding is possible.
A new fraternity house is being built near Austin Peay State. The groundbreaking ceremony for Sigma Chi’s new facility was held on Saturday. Sigma Chi has had a chapter on the APSU campus for nearly 50 years. APSU’s president says the new home will permanently connect the fraternity to the school.
A heads up if you shop at Family Dollar. The FDA says several FDA-regulated products from Family Dollar stores across the country may be unsafe to consume. A rodent infestation was found at a distribution facility in West Memphis, Arkansas. Some examples of the impacted items include human foods, cosmetics, medical devices, and medications. The FDA is working with Family Dollar to issue a voluntary recall. The states impacted include Tennessee Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri.
A bill to honor an East Tennessee soldier killed in Afghanistan is making its way through the state legislature. Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Knauss [[ Kuh-nows ]] was killed outside the Kabul Airport while helping to evacuate the country last August. The bill would rename a section of Tazewell Pike in Knox County after Sergeant Knauss. The bill’s sponsor, Republican State Senator Becky Duncan expects it to be unanimously approved.
