There’s a strong show of support for a Robertson County Sheriff’s Office deputy found dead in her Middle-Tennessee home. A sea of blue escorted the body of 22-year-old Deputy Savanna Puckett from the medical examiner’s office in Nashville back to Robertson County yesterday. Officers from other Mid-State law enforcement agencies lined the route to pay their respects. Puckett was found shot inside her burning home on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the Mid-State man arrested in connection with Puckett’s death is being described as an “acquaintance.” The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says he is 27-year-old James Jackson Conn who was arrested yesterday after a standoff in Smyrna.
Sumner County Paramedic Captain Shane Clifford is dead after suffering from COVID-19 complications. Clifford passed away yesterday after spending twenty days at Vanderbilt Medical Center. The captain worked as an EMT in Sumner County since 2002. Clifford leaves behind a wife and two children and was known as a generous public servant to his colleagues and the community.
Police in Portland made a routine traffic stop that ended up taking a dangerous career criminal off the streets. Last Thursday night, Portland Officer Derek Fondren noticed a car with an illegal window tint. He pulled over the Impala and nd found narcotics in a mason jar, which included marijuana and cocaine and 400 Xanax pills that could turn out to be Fentanyl. 47-year-old Maurice Dalton is in the Sumner County Jail charged with a number of drug felonies as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Sixty-two communities across Tennessee will be receiving $28.5 million in block grants for infrastructure improvements, housing rehabilitation, and health and safety initiatives. Springfield will get $630,000 for Sewer System Improvements. Gov. Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe approved the funds. Lee says they’ll play a vital role in keeping communities safe.
